Before Jesus ascended to the Father, the disciples asked him one last question. It was a question they had already asked…
In Matthew 24, the disciples asked Jesus when the end of the age would be. He responded in v. 14 that the end would come after the “gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations.”
In Matthew 28, Jesus commanded the apostles to preach the gospel to all nations: “make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them . . . teaching them to observe all that I commanded you.”
In Acts 1, Jesus and the apostles continued their conversation about the end of the age that they began in Matthew 24. The apostles once again asked Jesus when he would restore the kingdom to Israel. He answered their question by telling them to preach the gospel, beginning in Jerusalem and spreading from there to the rest of the world.
Jesus equated restoring the kingdom with preaching the gospel.
But how was (is) this to be accomplished? Let’s dig into Acts 1:8 for some answers. Can you find 25 facts from just Acts 1:8? Make a list of as many as you can, and then check back to see how well you did.
